The Katsina State Police Command successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and rescued 18 passengers on January 3rd, 2025. Suspected armed bandits, using AK-47 rifles, ambushed four vehicles traveling on the Funtua-Katsina to Gusau highway.
The vehicles, which included a maroon Toyota Avensis, a white DAF, a Pacars Canter, and a green DAF, were transporting the passengers when the attack occurred.
Local authorities immediately responded to reports of the ambush. A fierce gun battle ensued, and the police were able to drive back the bandits and rescue all 18 victims unharmed. Furthermore, in a separate incident on the same day, police thwarted a cattle rustling attempt in Gidan Gada village, Kafur LGA.
The police engaged the bandits in a gun battle, and managed to recover all the stolen livestock. The DPO of the Kafur Division, unfortunately, sustained a gunshot wound during this confrontation and is currently receiving medical care.
The Katsina State Police Commissioner, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, commended the officers for their bravery and urged the public to continue providing valuable information to assist the security forces in their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating crime in the area. The successful rescue of the passengers and recovery of the stolen cattle demonstrate the dedication and professionalism of the Katsina State Police Command in protecting the lives and property of the community members.
