Tottenham Acquires Goalie Kinský for £12.5m in Response to Goalkeeping Crisis

Tottenham Hotspur have signed Antonín Kinský, a goalkeeper from Slavia Prague, for £12.5 million. This move comes amidst a recent injury crisis at the club. Kinský, a 25-year-old Czech Republic U21 international, has signed a contract extending until 2031.

This acquisition provides valuable depth to Tottenham’s goalkeeping position, which has been significantly impacted by injuries. Current first-choice goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario, is sidelined with an ankle injury, and Fraser Forster is unavailable due to illness. This left 25-year-old Brandon Austin with no other experienced options and forced him to make his senior debut in goal.

Tottenham’s official statement, posted on their website, details the signing. It highlights that the signing is subject to international clearance and a work permit. The statement also notes that Kinský will wear the number 31 jersey.

The goalkeeper’s footballing journey began locally in Prague with FC Tempo Prague, Bohemians Prague 1905, and FK Dukla Prague. He made his senior debut with the latter club in July 2020. He joined Slavia Prague in July 2021 and played with the B team, making nine appearances in his first season. Kinský subsequently went on loan to MFK Vyskov, featuring 13 times in the second half of the 2021/22 season. He returned to Slavia for a second loan spell before joining FK Pardubice in July 2023 on a season-long loan, accumulating 18 appearances.

He rejoined Slavia Prague for the 2024/25 season and has made 29 appearances this season, keeping 14 clean sheets across various competitions, including the Czech First League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League qualifiers. His international experience includes youth levels from Under-15 to Under-21, and earning call-ups for the senior Czech Republic team for the 2024 October and November UEFA Nations League fixtures.

Kinský’s arrival is a crucial signing for Tottenham at a pivotal time for the club, with injuries and a dip in performance impacting their recent campaigns. The club hopes that Kinský will stabilize the goalkeeping position as they strive overcome the recent setbacks. This signing marks Tottenham’s first acquisition in the January transfer window, and they continue to address potential weaknesses within their squad across various fields including midfield and attack. Tottenham fans are hopeful that Kinský’s arrival will boost their fortunes and help them return to winning ways.
