Suspected bandits carried out a deadly attack in Katsina State, resulting in the tragic death of Alhaji Amadu Surajo, the acting chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria. The attack occurred in the Mai Rana village of the Kusada Local Government Area on Saturday night.
Tragically, three other individuals lost their lives in the violence, and several more suffered injuries. Local authorities, including the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, and the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasir Mu’azu, confirmed the incident. Reports suggest the attack occurred late in the evening of Saturday into the early hours of Sunday.
Beyond the loss of life, the attack also resulted in the kidnapping of two wives and one daughter of the deceased. A source close to the situation, speaking anonymously, reported that one of the wives was later released. The deceased, Ahmadu Surajo, had been acting as the state chairman of the association following the mysterious disappearance of the previous chairman, Munnir Lamido, in June 2024. Lamido had last been seen on June 23, 2024, in Zaria, and his vehicle along with two phones were found near Maraban Jos, a location just before entering Kaduna. Security operatives searched for him, but he has remained missing.
In reaction to the horrific violence, additional security personnel have been dispatched to the area to restore order and conduct a thorough investigation. Funeral arrangements are already underway for Ahmadu Surajo and the other victims; their bodies will be prepared for burial later on Sunday according to Islamic traditions. Meanwhile, the injured are receiving medical treatment.
This unspeakable violence underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures in the affected areas. The loss of life and ongoing uncertainty surrounding the disappearance of the previous chairman, Munnir Lamido, further exacerbate the security challenges facing the region.
