The Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board announced a prohibition on street hawking and other unlawful activities within Maiduguri.
The announcement was made pursuant to the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Law of 2002, according to Mr. Limán Mustapha, the General Manager of the board.
Specifically, this prohibition applies to street vendors, tricycle operators, and mechanics working with generators, especially around busy areas such as the Post Office and Monday Market in Maiduguri. Furthermore, activities like operating on pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts, selling engine oil on road reservations, dumping construction materials, mixing cement on roads, and constructing boreholes along roadsides are strictly forbidden.
Mustapha emphasized that those affected by the new regulations are expected to vacate their current sites immediately. To enforce the ban, the board is prepared to prosecute defaulters. Mustapha urged residents and business owners to adhere to the imposed prohibition to prevent legal issues.
This measure aims at establishing a neat, secure, and ordered urban environment in Maiduguri as well as other parts of Borno.
