Kano University Closes Female Hostels Due to Immoral Behaviours

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has closed Al-Ansar Indabo female student hostels in Kano, located on UDB Road and Hotoro. This action, announced Monday by Dr. Hamza Garba, Vice President of Campus Life, follows reported breaches of the university’s code of conduct.

The university statement explained that the closure is part of MAAUN’s commitment to providing safe and appropriate housing for its students. The hostels failed to meet university standards for private student accommodations, leading to several problems. These included instances of inappropriate behavior, unreliable utilities (water and electricity), student altercations, unauthorized nighttime activity, and the sharing of facilities with non-students.

“I am directed by the management to write, inform, and bring to the attention of our esteemed parents and students that the university has withdrawn its approval for Al-Ansar Indabo female students hostels located at UDB Road and Hotoro,” the statement read.

Dr. Garba emphasized that these issues compromised student well-being. Consequently, all students residing in the affected hostels must move out after the current semester exams. The university urged students to avoid any further contact with these facilities for their safety. The statement added, “Management is working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure total compliance with the directive.”

Students and parents seeking approved, secure housing alternatives are encouraged to contact the Office of the Vice President, Campus Life, at [email protected] MAAUN will not be held responsible for any consequences arising from non-compliance with this directive.
