Federal Government Approves Updates to Public Service Salary Structure Effective July 24

The Federal Government has given the green light for updates to the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), effective July24. During a press conference held on Tuesday in Abuja, Ekpo Nta, the Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), made this announcement. He explained that President Bola Tinubu signed the Act after it was presented to him by the National Assembly.

Nta pointed out that any federal public service—whether it’s self-funded or dependent on the treasury—that has not received a circular from the NSIWC regarding this update, should reach out for further instructions. He emphasized, “This is to avoid an un-coordinated implementation which has the tendency to destroy the existing salary relativities in the federal public service.”

Nta further indicated that the NSIWC would provide more details on how pensioners, members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and interns will benefit from these changes. He went on to enumerate the other revised salary structures, which include: Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Universities Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), and Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure II (CONTISS II). Additional structures mentioned were: the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS), Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS), and Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS).

Nta also identified more structures such as Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), Consolidated Para-Military Salary Structure (CONPASS), and Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS). Furthermore, he listed the Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICSS) and the Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS). “This is consequent to the enactment of the NSIWC Amendment Act2024 and the Memorandum of Understanding reached by the committee on consequential adjustments in salaries arising from the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act,2024,” he stated.
