The Edo State governorship election has concluded with the All Progressives Congress candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, claiming victory. Okpebholo outperformed his top rivals, Asue Ighodalo from the Peoples Democratic Party and Olumide Akpata representing the Labour Party.
On Sunday, the Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Kuta, made the announcement at the collation center located in Benin City, the capital of Edo State. Prof. Kuta, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology in Minna, stated, “That Okpebholo, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
Edo State is made up of18 Local Government Areas, categorized into three regions: Edo North, Edo South, and Edo Central. Historically, the APC has had a strong foothold in Edo North, while the PDP has been more successful in the Edo South and Edo Central regions.
