President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned the appointment of new Directors-General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed has been appointed as the new Director-General of the NIA, while Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi assumes the role of Director-General of the DSS. This announcement came via a statement from Tinubu’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale.
According to the statement, Ambassador Mohammed brings extensive experience to his new role, having served in the NIA since 1995. His career highlights include various diplomatic assignments, culminating in his recent tenure as Nigeria’s envoy to Libya.
A graduate of Bayero University, Kano, in 1990, Ambassador Mohammed has held positions in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and Abuja’s State House.
Mr. Adeola Ajayi, the new DSS Director-General, has risen through the ranks, currently serving as Assistant Director-General. He has previously held leadership roles in several states, including Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi.
These appointments follow the resignation of the former heads of the NIA and DSS. President Tinubu expects the new security chiefs to diligently reposition both agencies for Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General for their service to the nation and extended best wishes for their future endeavors.
These appointments mark a strategic move towards strengthening national security, with a focus on enhancing operational efficiency and inter-agency cooperation in addressing Nigeria’s security concerns.
