The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant for the gubernatorial election scheduled to hold on Saturday, 22nd September 2018 in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, is to face criminal prosecution. This is according to  a Press Release by the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday, 19th September, 2018.

In the Press Statement, Senator Adeleke was accused of conspiring with four others to commit examination malpractice, criminal conspiracy, personation, breach of duty, aiding and abetting.

The offence was committed on 21st July, 2017 at Ojo/Aro Community Grammar School in Osun State. Police investigation revealed that Senator Ademola Adeleke and his brother, Sikiru Adeleke, were registered for National Examination Council (NECO) examination in the school as internal candidates thus impersonating students of the school at ages 57 and 42 respectively.

Similarly, the Ojo/Aro 2017 NECO, SSCE school photo album (School’s copy), had Senator Ademola Adeleke and Sikiru Adeleke photographs in school uniforms in the said album. The said album had Senator Adeleke and his brother Sikiru side by side. However, there was no NECO stamp on the passport unlike others in the group.

Police say Senator Ademola Adeleke was arrested on 27 July 2017 and Sikiru Adeleke was arrested on 8 August 2017. In the cautionary statement obtained from Senator Adeleke after the arrest and establishment of prima facie and culpability facts against him, Senator Adeleke admitted he registered for the examination but that he did not eventually sit for it.

However, Police say Senator Adeleke had results for the examination he claimed he did not sit for, with the following grades: Seven (7) credits and one (1) Pass. A copy of the result was obtained from NECO by the Police.

Furthermore, Senator Ademola Adeleke in the NECO 2017 result obtained by the Police, claimed that he was born on 12th June 1997.  Nonetheless, in  the statement to the Police, Senator Ademola Adeleke wrote 13th May 1960 as his date of birth.

Additionally, the Police say “charges of examination malpractice, criminal conspiracy, personation, breach of duty, aiding and abetting against Senator Ademola Adeleke (PDP Governorship Aspirant in the 22nd September, 2018 Gubernatorial Election in Osun State) and four (4) others namely; MR Sikiru Adeleke, Alhaji Aregbesola Mufutau (Principal of Ojo-Aro Community Grammar School, Egbedore LGA, Osun State), Mr Gbadamosi Thomas Ojo (School Staff responsible for the registration of candidates for NECO), Mr Dare Olutope (School Teacher who facilitated the commission of the crime), have been filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja under the Examination Malpractice Act, CAP E15, 2004 today, Wednesday, 19th September, 2018.”
