Not less than four persons have reportedly been killed in a dare-devil afternoon raid on two banks in Ile-Oluji in Ondo State. The banks are First and Polaris Banks.
Those reportedly killed included two policemen and two civilians. Some other unknown numbers were also injured and receiving treatment in different hospitals.
Eyewitnesses said that the robbers used dynamite to blow up the entrances into the banks in order to gain entry. The robbery was said to have occurred at the closing hours of bank operations.
The robbers were reportedly confronted by local hunters in the community before they fled through different routes to escape.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the robbery incident through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone conversation.
The PPRO, however, said he could not ascertain the number of casualties as he had not been properly briefed. He confirmed that his men had been dispatched to the scene to handle the situation and restore order to the town.
