At least six police officers have been reportedly wounded in Philadelphia shooting on Wednesday afternoon, a shooting that extended into the evening, the Associated Press has reported.
A Philadelphia Police Sergeant, Eric Gripp, had tweeted that people should avoid the location – 3700 N 15th Street – and encouraged media helicopters to stay away from the area, tweeting “you are hindering operations.” He also advised the media to “stop broadcasting tactical positions of officers.”
The shooter remained active as at 7 pm local time in Philadelphia, Sergeant Gripp wrote in an update to his tweet, with police encouraging the shooter to surrender to avoid further casualties.
According to Sergeant Gripp, shooting incident is at 3700 N 15th Street, with suspect deliberately firing at police.

Injured officers have reportedly been taken to the hospital and were already receiving treatment. There were no life threatening injuries.
“Suspect is still firing. SIX (6) PPD Officers shot – at area hospitals with non life threatening injuries. Additional officers also receiving treatment for non-gunshot injuries. Continue to avoid area. Situation is active and ongoing,” Gripp tweeted.
There have been series of shooting in recent times in the US but this latest one is directly targeting police officers at Philadelphia – and no one could say why as at the time this story was compiled.
