Osun 2018: PDP protests against election outcome

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has staged a protest march in Abuja against the outcome of the 2018 gubernatorial election of Osun State. 

The protest took party members from the PDP secretariat in Wuse to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Headquarters at Maitama in Abuja, a distance of about 4.18km (2.60miles) using google maps estimates.

Many leaders of the party participated in the protest. They include the Senate President, Bukola saraki, the Speaker of the house of representative, Yakubu Dogara and the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwa among others.

According to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, who participated in the protest march, there action was meant to “protest against the outcome of the Osun State election and to demand for the continued independence of INEC.”

It will be recalled that the governorship election in Osun State held on the 22nd of September, and a supplementary election also held on the 27th of the same month, after INEC declared that the initial election was inconclusive.  INEC declared, Gboyega Oyetola, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, the winner of the election.

The the conduct of the election was widely criticised by the opposition, especially PDP.
