Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has met with Senator Iyiola Omisore, the governorship candidate of the SDP in the Osun State governorship election currently declared inconclusive. The meeting took place today in Ile-Ife, Osun State, South-West Nigeria.
Recall that Saraki is the head of the PDP Campaign Committee for the governorship election in Osun State. The election is currently declared inconclusive by INEC and a rerun in areas affected scheduled for Thursday, 27th September.
The Peoples Democratic Party had cried out that its candidate, Ademola Adeleke, won the election held on Saturday 22nd September 2018, which INEC declared inconclusive owing to the fact that the margin of win was lower than the numbers of votes cancelled. INEC has thus fixed Thursday 27th September as the date to conclude the election in areas where the elections inconclusive.
However, the PDP is not leaving any stone unturned in its determination to win the election come Thursday. The Party has opted to work with Omisore who pulled an impressive number of votes in the election. Omisore is seen as the man who holds the trump card and that may underscore why Saraki paid him a visit to work out a module that will see both parties working together on Thursday to ensure victory for the PDP.
“We have agreed to work together because our goals are the same. We all want good governance in Osun State. Over the next 24 hours, we will work out the details.
“Our discussion will definitely be useful for the growth of democracy in our country; the development of Osun State and its people; as well as for future engagements among political players”, Saraki Tweeted after the meeting.
Meanwhile, Senator Omisore has thanked the Senate President for his visit, saying, “together we shall make Osun great again”.
