The Ondo State government has directed Ondo State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA) to investigate the damage caused by the fire incident that happened on Wednesday night at Onyearugbulem Junction, along Olesha-Owo Expressway, Akure, the State capital.
The State Government, while addressing protesters through the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, said the government was concerned about the plight of the victims and that government would do the needful to bring succour to the victim.
Some youths demonstrated against the explosion, which occurred at Onyerugbulem Junction on Ilesha/Owo road in Akure, the State capital. The tanker reportedly carried 33,000 litres of fuel.
A businesswoman at Shagari village junction, Mrs. Sola Adeala said she lost thousands of naira to the fire and urged the state government to assist her so she and her family can survive life.
The protesting youths were demanding the construction of a fly-over at the junction. The Deputy Governor promised that government will ensure the presence of more traffic personnel at the junction who would work for longer hours of 6.00 am to 8.00 pm.
Additionally, the government would construct speed breakers on the road at the junction to allow vehicles to limit their speed while approaching the junction. He assured them that OSEMA would soon start to distribute materials to the victims.
