A public speaker, socio-economic, political commentator and social media expert, JJ Omojuwa, has rated the first term of former President Olusegun Obasanjo low, describing it as “mediocre”.
Olusegun Obasanjo was the first Nigeria President when the country returned to democracy in1999 after a protracted military rule.
JJ Omojuwa, who wrote on his verified Twitter handle, @Omojuwa, did not leave Nigerians in doubt as to why Obasnjo’s first term was filled with mediocrity – because Obasanjo held on to old ideas and allowed old people to run his government.
“Obasanjo had a mediocre 1st term: recalled his old friends and tried to work with his socialist/old ideas.”
But it was not all bad for Obasanio’s presidency. When he realised his mistakes and knew that the world had moved beyond his socialist and old ideas, he “switched things”, as Omojuwa noted.
He appointed young, brilliant minds, introduced liberal economic policies and till date, that era – Obasanjo’s 2nd term (2003-2007)- “remains Nigeria best since 1999!”, according to Omojuwa.
