Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola has been sworn in as the 21st Head of Service of Lagos State. By this appointment, Muri-Okunola, 46, becomes the youngest Head of Service ever appointed for Lagos State.
The swearing-in ceremony was performed today Monday 31st December 2018 by the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Akinwumi Ambode.
Also, during the ceremony, Adeniji Olufemi, Goncalves Fausat, Balogun Banjoko, Kosoko Adeyemi, Lawal Temidayo and Adelaja Omobolanle were sworn in as Permanent Secretaries by Gov. Ambode.
Gov. Ambode said that the appointment of Muri-Okunola marked a turning point in Lagos State Civil Service, with the anticipation that the new HOS will inject young enthusiasm into the Civil Service of Lagos State.
The Governor then tasked the new HOS to think creatively and seek growth as he takes on the new role. Furthermore, the Governor charged the new HOS to always lead by example, and to promote professionalism and accountability within the Lagos State Civil Service.
Gov. Ambode said:
“Following the swearing in of the new Head of Service, a new chapter has just been opened in the history of the Lagos state Public Service.
It is a new chapter with high expectations for the injection of new energy and vibarancy that will move our public service to new heights.
“As the number one civil servant in Lagos State, you must demonstrate leadership and lead by example for others, including the Body of Permanent Secretaries, to follow”
“ You have a responsibility to provide direction and encourage accountability , transparency, professionalism, and high sense of discipline”.
“Your actions must be based on sound and objective judgement with consideration for merit and proven record of competence and loyalty”.
In his reaction, the new HOS thanked the Governor for the trust and confidence reposed in him. He assured that under his leadership, the Civil Service will be further repositioned for speedy, efficient and effective implementation of government policies and initiatives.
Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola is the son of the late Justice Muri-Okunola. He was appointed in 2005 as the Executive Secretary, Land Use and Allocation Committee, a position he occupied till 2011. Prior to this period, he was personal Assistant to former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Befor his appointment as the HOS, he was the Permnanet Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Socila Development.
The event was attended by the National Leader of APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
