Governor John Kayode Fayemi has emerged as the new Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF).
The Ekiti State governor emerged the new leader of the Nigeria Governors Forum around 8pm yesterday through a consensus. He was nominated by Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai and seconded by his Delta State counterpart, Ifeanyi Okowa.

The election also saw Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, emerge as Vice-Chairmanof the Forum. He was nominated by the outgoing governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode and seconded by Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) of Ondo State.
Prior to the emergence of Fayemi, there had been rumor that the governor El-Rufai was interested in the position. But, the governors from the South led by the Bayelsa State governor demanded that the position be ceded to the zone since the North has occupied it in the last eight years.
Governor Fayemi will be succeeding Abdulazeez Yari of Zamfara state who has been the chair of the Forum since 2015.
