The government and people of Nasarawa State have expressed shock over the gas explosion in Lafia, the Nasarawa State Capital.
This message was conveyed during an on-the-spot assessment of the scene by the Deputy Governor of the State, Mr. Silas Agara.
He also paid a visit to the victims in the hospital, where he confirmed that two people were dead and 37 injured and promised that the State Government would do everything to unravel the cause of the explosion, with a view to forestalling recurrence in the future.
In addition, the Deputy Governor commended security operatives and emergency teams for their response. He advised members of the public to stay away from the scene of the accident in order not to hamper rescue operations and investigation of the incident.
The explosion, which happened at Monaco Gas plant within the premises of Natson Filling station on Jos Road, Lafia, was described as most unfortunate by the Deputy Governor.
Meanwhile, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has paid a visit to the victims of the gas explosion in Nassarawa State and condoled with the families that lost loved ones. He further said that the State Government would be supported to ensure the speedy and full recovery of all the victims.
The explosion coincided with his visit on his GrowNigeria Campaign to Nassarawa State where he said the good people of Nasarawa, the Home of Solid Minerals, welcomed him as he continued his discussions with members PDP and party delegates.
“I just visited the survivors of today’s horrific gas explosion in Nasarawa State. My thoughts and prayers remain with the families that lost loved ones today. We will continue to support the State Government to ensure the speedy and full recovery of the all the victims”, Saraki writes on his Twitter handle @bukolasaraki
