There was pandemonium in Akure, Ondo Sate capital this evening, as a fuel-laden trailer caught fire at the popular Onyearugbulem junction along Ilesha-Owo express road.
The incident occurred when a Toyota corolla sport was said to have rammed into the trailer while attempting to cross from Araromi side to Irese road, along Shagari Estate.
It took about 45 minutes for firefighters to get to the scene of the accident. The fire gutted several vehicles and shops on the opposite side of the NNPC standard station at the junction. However, the NNPC station was not affected.
The people around demonstrated uncommon bravery as they were seen making frantic efforts after the explosion from the tanker has subsided, to out the fire.
They were able to put out the raging fire on one vehicle close to the filling station and pushed it further away from filling station.
As at time of filing this report, the fire had reached the second avenue in Shagari Estate, though limited to the shops at the entrance into Shagari Estate area.
