Nigeria politician and former minister, Femi Fani-Kayode (FFK), has apologized to Col. Sambo Dasuki over a post on his Twitter handle that accused Dasuki of betraying Goodluck Ebele Jonathan(GEJ) during the 2015 presidential elections in Nigeria.
GEJ was Nigeria president at the time and Sambo Dasuki was the National Security Adviser to GEJ.
According to Fani-Kayode, the Twitter post was made in error by a member of his social media team, who has since been sacked due to the “offending tweet.”
It will be recalled that a statement was allegedly made by Babangida Aliyu, former governor of Niger state, that Northern Peoples Democratic Party governors worked against the victory of GEJ at the polls in 2015.
Fani-Kayode had reacted to the comments by mentioning names of those who reportedly were part of those who betrayed GEJ on his Twitter handle, including Sambo Dasuki.
However, the new tweet on his verified Twitter handle noted with regrets that Dasuki was a loyal National Security Adviser under GEJ and that he regretted any embarrassment the tweet might have caused Dasuki and his loved ones.
FFK lamented that it was “unfortunate and unacceptable” that Dasuki’s name was on the list, noting that the “offending tweet has been removed.”
Below is the tweet.
Yesterday a member of my social media team tweeted an allegation about those that betrayed @GEJonathan during the 2015 election with my handle. Col. Sambo Dasuki was one of the names mentioned. This was done without my authorisation & in error. Col. Dasuki was a faithful &..1/— Femi Fani-Kayode (@realFFK) April 19, 2021
