Residents of Ado-Ekiti woke up to an early morning explosion that rocks the Nigeria Police Headquarters in the state capital.
The location of the explosion was the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) office of the Nigeria Police Headquarters located on the Old Governor’s Road. The explosion reduced the building into rubble.
The Commissioner of Police in the State, Amba Asuquo, said the explosion was due to some bomb detection devices that were kept in the area which may have exploded.
“These demolition accessories, in case there’s a bomb blast and they want to rescue the bomb out of that place, they might have the need for it. So it was kept in their stock house and it must have exploded from there,” he said.
There were, however, no casualties as a result of the development, although the explosion caused panic and confusion in the State.
The Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has already visited the scene but declined to speak with journalist on the incident.
