A 44-year-old cleric, Taiwo Opaleke, who allegedly defiled a teenage boy, was on Thursday remanded in Kirikiri Prisons by an Ikeja Magistrate Court.

Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi, while remanding the cleric, said that the court could not take the accused plea as it needed the advice of the state’s director of public prosecutions(DPP).

The accused who resides at Shomolu, Lagos, was charged on one count of defiling a 15-year-old boy.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on 14 December at his residence.

Ayorinde explained that the accused sexually assaulted the teenager by penetrating into his anus.

“The accused, who leaves in the same area with the boy, invited him to his church, but the boy refused to go.

“The accused came to the boy’s house and took him to his house where he forcefully had intercourse with him.

“The boy told his brother with whom he is staying.

“His brother reported the case, and the accused was arrested,” he said.

He said the offence contravened Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The case was adjourned till 6 February for hearing.
