President Muhammadu Buhari has given assent to the Nigerian Correctional Service Bill, 2019, which seeks to rename the Nigerian Prisons Service.
The new Act repeals the Prisons Act and changes the name of the Nigerian Prisons Service to the Nigerian Correctional Service.
This was announced on Wednesday by the Presidency in a tweet posted on its Twitter handle, @NGRPresident .
Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant President Buhari on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang, had announced the information to newsmen.

Reactions Trail Renaming of Nigerian Prison Service
Many Nigerians are reacting to the change in name. While many laud the change in name, they also advocated for putting structures, that will ensure that the Service lives up to its new name, in place.
See few of the reactions below:
Hamza Abdullahi Musa @hamazaabdullah1 : “Thats a wonderful development as this will change image of the prisoners to be rehabilitated instead of mere confining. I pray the correctional facilities should be provided to meet with the name implies.”
blackguy@Idomaboy147 said “I am looking forward to a wholistic plan that will revamp the process of actual transformation of inmates to better citizens during and after incarceration. Changing a name and leaving the failed structure intact is an exercise in futility.
Another Nigerian, @Elukayode said The major problem here is not only the name, let’s quickly start working with the judiciary on prison decongestion and dispensation of justice! Even the CJN during his screening at the Senate confirmed that there are many people in Nigerian prisons who have no business in there
