Body of former President Shagari laid to rest

Former President Shehu Shagari has been buried. His body was interred this afternoon at his hometown of Shagari in Shagari local government area of Sokoto State.

The former president was buried after the funeral prayers which were led by by Professor Shehu Galadanchi, former Vice-Chancellor, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto.

Shagari who passed on on Friday was flown to National Hospital in Abuja on Christmas day when his health deteriorated. He was aged 93 years.

The body of the late former President was flown to Sokoto this afternoon and was received on arrival at Sultan Abubakar Airport, Sokoto by Governor Aminu Tambuwal, alongside members of the state executive council, enroute its final destination at Shagari.

Many past and serving top government officials and other dignitaries were at the funeral. Among them were Federal government delegation, led by Boss Mustapha, Secretary to Government of the Federation, and governors of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.

Others in attendance are former governor Attahiru Bafarawa, former Independent National Electoral Commission chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, Waziri Sokoto, Professor Junaid Walk, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, former Minister, Mukhtar Shagari, and several others.
