The Ondo state government has approved the Ondo State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps Bill for consideration by the state House of Assembly.
The bill will be passed into law after consideration by the Ondo state house of assembly. Amotekun is the regional security outfit of the Southwest in Nigeria.
The draft bill was approved for consideration at an exhaustive discussion of the Ondo state executive council on Wednesday 12th February 2020, after it was presented by the Attorney General of the state and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Kola Olawoye (SAN).
It will be recalled that attempt by the Southwest to form a regional security outfit was greeted with disapproval by the federal government of Nigeria when it was declared illegal.
The issue was later resolved with the federal government allowing the outfit to run in line with the community policing policy of the country. Also, the southwest governors were advised to go through their various houses of assembly to give legal backing to the outfit.
With the bill now in the in the Ondo state house of assembly, Amotekun is ready to kick off in the state with all the legal backing it needs.
